Vol. 410 No. 6

Written Answers. - Nenagh (Tipperary) By-Pass.

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

106 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for the Environment the reason approval for the Nenagh by-pass northern route, in County Tipperary, application for which was made by Tipperary North Riding County Council in a letter dated 24 March 1988 has not yet been issued by his Department; whether approval will be granted during 1991 in order that this project can be included as a priority in the programme of major improvements to be carried out under the operational programme on peripherality; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The proposals submitted by Tipperary North Riding County Council for a by-pass of Nenagh is at present being considered by my Department which will be in touch with the local authority shortly in regard to it. Delay arose from the need to give priority to the processing of those proposals which are included in the tentative list of major improvement projects planned to commence and/or be completed in the period 1989 to 1993. The timing of a by-pass of Nenagh, which is not included in the tentative list, will be considered in the preparation of future road construction programmes for the period after 1993.
