Vol. 411 No. 1

Written Answers. - Mountrath (Laois) Traffic Control.

Charles Flanagan

Ceist:

439 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for the environment whether he received an application from Laois County Council in respect of funds for the provision of a pedestrian crossing on the main Dublin/Limerick road in the town of Mountrath, County Laois; and if, having regard to the urgent need in the area for such a crossing, consideration will be given to this matter at the earliest opportunity.

A report and estimate of the cost of pedestrian facilities at Patrick Street, Mountrath was recently submitted by the local authority and has been examined in my Department. Further information has been sought from the local authority and, on receipt of this, the matter will receive further consideration. The cost of providing the pedestrian facilities would fall to be met from the local authority's ordinary maintenance grant for national primary roads which, in 1991, amounts to £208,000.
