Vol. 412 No. 7

Written Answers. - National Metrology Centre.

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

22 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if Eolas were directed to make available to a football club (details supplied) lands currently designated as the headquarters for the new National Metrology Centre, for use for recreational purposes, against the wishes of the employees of Eolas and without the formal consent of the board of Eolas and that as a consequence of Eolas's compliance with this direction work on the proposed National Metrology Centre could not take place for at least five years; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by Eolas that they are exploring ways of allowing the club in question the use, for a period not exceeding five years, of about 0.5 acres of unused Eolas land for recreational purposes. This matter is one for negotiation between both parties and any agreement will require the approval of the Eolas board. It should not affect the timescale for the National Metrology Centre proposed by Eolas.
