Vol. 413 No. 7

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Ned O'Keeffe

Ceist:

125 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education if he will arrange for an official of his Department to investigate the overall school transport position in respect of a school (details supplied) in County Cork with a view to resurveying and restructuring the service.

I am aware of questions raised and have sought a full report on the operation of the school transport service in the area in question.

On the general question of restructuring the service in question, Bus Éireann who administer the primary school transport scheme have instructions to arrange the routes of all the transport services in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible while working within the structures of the scheme itself. In particular, they would be expected to avoid, so far as possible, intrusions into the vicinity of schools other than the one they were intended to serve so as not to take pupils away from their immediate area.
