Vol. 413 No. 9

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funding.

Tomás MacGiolla

Ceist:

280 Tomás Mac Giolla asked the Minister for Education if he will give details, in respect of his Department's spending in 1990, of over £17 million of national lottery funding on youth and sport activities of (1) the broad areas where this money was spent and (2) the amount of that money which went towards schools at primary and post-primary levels and (3) any information which was given to schools regarding how applications for such funds can be made.

I would refer the Deputy to the 1990 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts which gives particulars, both in detail and by broad category, of my Department's spending from the proceeds of the national lottery on youth and sport activities.

This includes a total of £85,000 distributed among one- and three-teacher primary schools towards the cost of providing physical education equipment. Corresponding grants were given to two-teacher schools in 1991. As the grants were paid to all schools within the categories specific application was not necessary.
