113 Mr. Taylor asked the Minister for Education the reason a person (details supplied) in UCD has not yet been supplied with the Braille textbooks she needs in order to complete her second year at the college; and if he will make a statement on the policy of his Department for the provision of Braille textbooks in third level institutions; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Third level institutions are providing facilities for students with disabilities in so far as it is possible within the resources available to them. The arrangements in each case are a matter for the authorities of the institution concerned.
While no specific grants are given to third level education institutions to provide text books in Braille, it is the policy of my Department to encourage them to provide facilities for students with disabilities in so far as it is possible within the resources available to them.
