Seán Ryan

Ceist:

130 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for Defence the amount of the grant-in-aid paid to reserve sub-units; when they were last adjusted and the amount of such adjustment; the number of units that received the full rate of grant in 1990 and 1991; the number, corps and command of sub-units that received a partial grant in 1990 and in 1991; the date that full grants were paid in 1990 and 1991; whether an upward adjustment will be made in 1992; whether consideration will be made for a differentiated sum for sub-units located in or out of barracks; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The total amount of the grant paid to the reserve unit funds was £190,392 in 1990 and £191,217 in 1991.

The grant to An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil unit funds was last adjusted in 1983 from £800 to £1,565 for a unit/sub-unit and from £200 to £625 for unit detachments. The grant to An Slua Muirí was also adjusted in 1983 from £2.50 to £4.90 for each member on the effective list on 1 January of each year.

The full grant was paid to 114 units/sub-units and four detachments in 1990 and to 115 units/sub-units and four detachments in 1991.

The number, Corps and Command that received a partial grant in 1990 and 1991 is as follows:

In 1990 full grants were paid on 30 March and in 1991 full grants were paid in two phases on 24 January and 20 March. I am satisfied that the amounts paid are adequate to allow the units and sub-units to operate in the manner prescribed in Defence Force Regulations.
