Written Answers. - Request for UN Peace-keeping Troops.

Ceist:

132 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Defence if any request has been received from the United Nations for Irish troops to serve in a peace-keeping capacity in Yugoslavia or other east European countries; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

No such request has been received. Six volunteer members of the Permanent Defence Forces are at present serving with the EC Monitor Mission to Yugoslavia. This mission, which is mandated by the Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe (CSCE), is unarmed.
