Vol. 414 No. 2

Written Answers. - Sligo Swimming Pool.

Edward Nealon

Ceist:

56 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Education if the £1 million national lottery grant which was allocated in 1987 for a Sligo swimming pool is still available; and if so, if it will be available to be drawn when design and construction plans are completed, irrespective of any cuts on capital projects that may be required in his Department.

Edward Nealon

Ceist:

57 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Education if he will outline the present position in relation to the Sligo swimming pool project; the estimated date on which actual work on construction will commence; the estimated duration of the contract; and the estimated date when the new pool will be open to the public.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 56 and 57 together.

The detailed design work for the new swimming pool in Sligo is being undertaken by consultants commissioned by Sligo Corporation on the basis of a grant of £1 million from my Department. It is anticipated that the project will have reached the stage at which tenders can be invited early in 1992. A decision on the placing of a contract will be taken when tenders have been received and considered and the capital allocation for 1992 confirmed. The contract period for such a project would not be expected to exceed 12 months.
