Vol. 414 No. 9

Written Answers. - Roscrea (Tipperary) Traffic Problems.

Michael Lowry

Ceist:

102 Mr. Lowry asked the Minister for the Environment if he will sanction the application for funding by Tipperary North Riding County Council to address the serious traffic problems in Roscrea town centre (details supplied).

As the works in question do not relate to the network of national roads, responsibility for them rests with Tipperary (NR) County Council. The cost of such works normally falls to be financed from local resources supplemented by the discretionary/block grant provided annually by my Department. The 1991 discretionary road grant allocations notified to Tipperary (NR) County Council amount to £1.873 million. The determination of priorities in the expenditure of these grants is a matter for the local authority.
