Vol. 414 No. 9

Written Answers. - County Donegal Military Installations.

Dinny McGinley

Ceist:

127 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Defence if he will outline (1) the location and numerical strength of each military installation in County Donegal (2) the location with helicopter and landing facilities and (3) whether there are plans to further develop any of the installations.

The military installations in County Donegal comprise Finner Camp, Lifford military post and Rockhill House, Letterkenny. In addition, there are a number of permanent Border checkpoints. It is not the practice to disclose the numerical strength of military installations.

A helicopter is based at Finner Camp and landing facilities for helicopters are available at the other two principal installations in County Donegal.

Works are in progress in Finner Camp to improve the facilities there for helicopter operations for air sea rescue purposes. Certain improvement works have been carried out in Lifford and Rockhill during 1991.
