Vol. 414 No. 10

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Investigation.

Patrick J. Morley

Ceist:

102 Mr. Morley asked the Minister for Social Welfare when investigations which began in March on a deceased pensioner's bank account, will be finalised to enable payment of the residue of his estate to be made over to his next-of-kin who is a patient in a nursing home and needs the assets to pay for her maintenance there.

Solicitors for the deceased pensioner have furnished a schedule of assets relating to his estate. The case is being examined to determine if any overpayment of old age non-contributory pension has occurred. In this connection, my Department have written to the solicitors recently to seek clarification of some financial details.

I have requested my officials to make special efforts to resolve this case quickly. When the case is finalised, the interested parties will be notified immediately.
