Vol. 415 No. 1

Written Answers. - Cashel (Tipperary) Employment Exchange Service.

Theresa Ahearn

Ceist:

270 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he intends to provide an employment exchange in Cashel, County Tipperary; if he will outline his plans in his regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There are no plans to provide an employment exchange in Cashel. The area is currently served by an employment office which is managed on a contract basis for my Department.

As part of the process of building a better local service, the Department recently introduced a new system of management at regional and local level. Operations in the south-east region — Waterford, Kilkenny, Wexford, South Tipperary and Carlow — are being reviewed by the regional manager in Waterford to see what improvements can be made. Services in Cashel will be looked at as part of this review. However, it is considered probable that Cashel will continue to warrant a local office and that the range of local social welfare services available in Cashel will be extended as developments generally permit.
