Vol. 415 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tallaght District Court Facility.

Mervyn Taylor

Ceist:

286 Mr. Taylor asked the Minister for Justice if the volume of work being carried out in Rathfarnham District Court at present is largely from the Tallaght area; if it is an essential facility that this district courthouse be located in Tallaght, in or around the area of the town centre; if in the circumstances he will open discussions with Dublin County Council to have arrangements made for the planning and provision of this facility for the people of Tallaght; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The case-load of Rathfarnham District Court is about 11,000 per year. Approximately two-thirds of that caseload originates in the Tallaght area. The entire caseload is disposed of in two and a half days per week.

I am informed that the present arrangements are adequate. If, however, Dublin County Council decided to provide a courthouse in Tallaght, I shall consider whatever proposals they make.
