Vol. 415 No. 1

Written Answers. - Mallow (Cork) Hospital.

Frank Crowley

Ceist:

357 Mr. Crowley asked the Minister for Health if a capital grant will be made available to the Southern Health Board out-patients department of Mallow General Hospital; and if extra staff will be made available for the casualty unit of this hospital.

The position regarding a scheme of improvements involving the relocation of the out-patients and other departments at Mallow General Hospital is under consideration in my Department. I am aware of the urgency of the matter and my Department will be in touch with the Southern Health Board on the matter.

There are currently no proposals for additional posts to staff the casualty unit of Mallow General Hospital before my Department. Each health board is responsible for determining the staffing needs of the individual hospitals under its management and for establishing priorities for the allocation of staff within the approved employment ceiling for the board. I understand that the staffing situation in Mallow General Hospital is being kept under review by the Southern Health Board.
