Vol. 415 No. 1

Written Answers. - Surgery Appointment.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

370 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Health when a bed can be made available in the Mater Hospital for a young person (details supplied) who has a serious ear complaint and who is on the waiting list for an operation since April, 1991; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The scheduling of surgery is a matter for the clinical judgment of the consultant concerned. I have made inquiries from the Mater Hospital authorities who have informed me that because of the number of emergency admissions, it is not possible at this time to give a specific admission date for this young person. If it is felt that more immediate attention is required, her general practitioner would be the best person to highlight her case to her consultant.

Waiting times for admissions are being considered as part of the general review of waiting lists which I have initiated with a view to improving the service provided.
