371 Mr. Carey asked the Minister for Health if she will outline (1) the capital allocations to each of the eight health boards for each of the years from 1975 to 1990 and (2) the reasons Department policy did not give an equitable distribution over this period.
The financial information sought by the Deputy is given in the following table. The amounts shown include disbursements from the capital subheads, bank loans made available mainly for equipping major hospital developments and grants of a capital nature funded from the national lottery.
The policy of my Department is to allocate the capital resources available to the developments that are most urgently required to maintain and improve the infrastructure of the health services. The distribution of the resources available in any particular period is influenced to a considerable degree by the location and duration of major new capital developments such as those now being completed at Waterford and Sligo.
The Deputy will be aware that the planning of a major development at Limerick Regional Hospital has now commenced.
