Ceist:

410 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Education if his attention has been drawn to the cost to local authorities of carrying out the necessary administration on behalf of the Department of Education in respect of higher education grants; if he will undertake to compensate local authorities for this particular cost; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The local authorities are the bodies statutorily entrusted with the administration of the higher education grants scheme.

Matters relating to the funding of the local authorities are appropriate to the Minister for the Environment.
