Vol. 415 No. 1

Written Answers. - Leixlip (Kildare) School.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

453 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education whether the present accommodation at Scoil Uí Dhálaigh, Leixlip, County Kildare, complies with standards laid down in respect of minimum area of space regarded as being optimum per pupil in primary schools; if he will outline (a) the extent to which the accommodation falls short of this criterion, (b) his proposals to bring the accommodation there up to the required standard and (c) when he expects the work to be carried out; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I met a deputation from Scoil Uí Dhálaigh, Leixlip, County Kildare, on 22 January 1992, I accept that the existing classroom accommodation and other facilities are below standard in certain respects.

Tenders have been received and examined for the provision of an eight classroomed block and ancillary accommodation at the school. The question of the placing of the contract is being considered in the context of the 1992 budgetary allocation and the demographic situation in Leixlip and I explained this to the deputation last week.
