Vol. 415 No. 3

Written Answers. - Dublin Taxi Plates Allocation.

Patrick McCartan

Ceist:

150 Mr. McCartan asked the Minister for the Environment if he intends to issue further taxi plates for the Dublin taxi meter area.

The Road Traffic (Public Service Vehicles) (Amendment) Regulations 1991 provide that, with the exception of 100 new taxi licences which were authorised to be granted in respect of an extended Dublin taxi meter area, no small public service vehicle licences may be granted with effect from the date on which those regulations came into effect (viz 24 October 1991).

I do not propose to alter that position in advance of the submission of the report of the interdepartmental committee who are carrying out a review of the law applying to the operation of small public service vehicles generally. I expect that the committee's final report will be submitted to me by early March.
