Vol. 415 No. 3

Written Answers. - Status of Arrest Warrant.

John Connor

Ceist:

133 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for Justice if he will confirm in relation to the case of a person (details supplied) in County Roscommon who was charged with serious arms and ammunition offences in Limerick on 8 October 1981, and who later absconded to Spain, whether the warrant for the arrest still stands; and the steps which have been taken to extradite this man from Spain to face the filed charges against him in this country.

It is not the practice for Ministers for Justice to disclose the existence or otherwise of a warrant for the arrest of person. Nor is it the practice to disclose where proceedings have been initiated in a particular case for extradition from a foreign country. Apart from other considerations, disclosure of information of this kind might hinder Garda action.
