5 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for the Environment if he will agree to introduce measures whereby proceeds from fines arising from traffic prosecutions would automatically be paid to the relevant local authorities to fund additional traffic management improvement and enforcement.

Fines imposed by the courts arising from prosecutions under the road traffic Acts are required by the Road Traffic Act, 1961, to be paid into the Exchequer. I have no proposals to alter this arrangement.
