Vol. 415 No. 4

Written Answers. - Local Government Act, 1991.

Tomás MacGiolla

Ceist:

61 Tomás Mac Giolla asked the Minister for the Environment when he intends to give effect to Part VI of the Local Government Act, 1991; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Local Government Act, 1991, is being brought into effect on a phased basis by way of a series of commencement orders as necessary regulations are made and other preparatory action taken. At this stage, over two-thirds of the provisions of the Act have been commenced. As part of this ongoing process, Part VI, which provides for a comprehensive restatement and modernisation of the law relating to committees and joint committees of local authorities will be brought into effect as soon as possible.
