63 Mr. G. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for the Environment if, in view of the crisis in unemployment, he intends to introduce any measures to help mortgage holders who are having difficulty in meeting their repayments; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Under the supplementary welfare allowances scheme, which is the responsibility of the Minister for Social Welfare, persons whose means are insufficient to meet their needs can receive assistance in respect of the interest element of their mortgage payments. I have no proposals to introduce further measures.
