Vol. 415 No. 9

Written Answers. - Tourism Promotion Funding.

Michael Moynihan

Ceist:

172 Mr. Moynihan asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if she will outline the total amount of money being provided in 1992 for the promotion and marketing of tourism in (1) Europe, (2) Britain, (3) North America and (4) in the home market; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Bord Fáilte are the lead agency for the overseas marketing and promotion of Irish tourism and this year will receive funding from a number of sources to assist them in this task.

Bord Fáilte will receive a grant-in-aid of £21.5 million from the Exchequer and in addition will be involved in a range of EC and IFI assisted co-operative marketing initiatives with the industry, involving further expenditure of nearly £10 million on Ireland's overseas marketing efforts.

It is a matter for Bord Fáilte, in consultation with industry and other interests to determine the level and markets in which these funds will be expended.
