Vol. 415 No. 9

Written Answers. - Breast Cancer Study.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

176 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he will make a statement on a recent study carried out at St. Vincent's hospital, Dublin, which shows (a) that of 291 patients with palpable breast cancer, 48 tested negative in pre-operative mammograms and (b) that in the case of eight women, it was another ten months before cancer was diagnosed.

I am aware of the study to which the Deputy is referring. I have asked the people conducting the study to let me have a copy of the full report. I will communicate with the Deputy when I have had an opportunity to examine the report in detail.
