Vol. 415 No. 9

Written Answers. - Drogheda (Louth) Community College.

Michael Bell

Ceist:

63 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Education whether his attention has been drawn to (a) the serious overcrowding in St. Oliver's community college, Drogheda, County Louth which was built to accommodate 850 pupils and now has an enrolment of 1,050, (b) the fact that the school will be unable to accept all its first year enrolments in September 1992 and (c) the fact that in June 1991 his Department granted sanction for an extension to the school and that this sanction has now been withdrawn; and when he proposes to make a decision regarding the extension.

I am aware of the accommodation problems at St. Oliver's community college, Drogheda, County Louth.

I am pleased to say that architectural planning to provide the required additional accommodation has been completed and wish to state that at no time was sanction for the extension to this school withdrawn.

I can assure the Deputy that every effort will be made within the available resources to include the project among those which may proceed to tender during the current year.
