Vol. 416 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Statistics.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

16 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Taoiseach if he will outline (a) the number of persons under 25 years who are unemployed and (b) the number of those unemployed for over one year, and if, in respect of each, he will give details of the percentage increase in the total compared to mid-1991.

The information requested by the Deputy is contained in a statement which I propose to circulate in the Official Report.

Jim Higgins

Ceist:

17 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Taoiseach if he will outline the number of males and females at work at the latest available date; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There were an estimated 1,121,000 persons at work, comprising 747,000 males and 374,000 females, according to the preliminary results of the 1991 labour force survey. The period in question was mid-April 1991.

Is the Minister of State in a position to supply us with a breakdown of the figures under the various socio economic groupings, for example, agriculture, the professions, manufacturing, the services sector and so on?

I am not in a position to do so but I believe the figures are available in the Central Statistics Office. I will try to get a copy to the Deputy.

Let us now proceed to deal with questions nominated for priority for which 15 minutes only is provided in Standing Orders.
