Vol. 416 No. 8

Written Answers. - Road Freight Carrier's Licence.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

107 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if she will outline the procedures involved in getting a haulier's licence; and if she will further outline the circumstances, if any, where exemptions apply in respect of these regulations with particular reference to hauliers in operation prior to 1975.

An applicant for a road freight carrier's licence must satisfy the three requirements of good repute, appropriate financial standing and professional competence as set out in the European Communities (Merchandise Road Transport) Regulations, 1991.

On receipt of a duly completed application form, a carrier's licence will be granted once the above requirements have been met.

There are no circumstances where exemptions apply in respect of these regulations either with particular reference to hauliers operating prior to 1975 or otherwise.
