Vol. 416 No. 8

Written Answers. - County Tipperary Nursing Posts.

Theresa Ahearn

Ceist:

111 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Health when the four nursing posts, promised in April 1991, for a hospital (details supplied) in County Tipperary, will be sanctioned in order to alleviate the enormous staff shortage; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There are currently no proposals for additional nursing posts for St. Joseph's Hospital, Clonmel before my Department for consideration.

Each health board are responsible for determining the staffing needs of the individual hospitals under their management and for establishing priorities, from within available resources, for the allocation of staff within the approved employment ceiling for the board. I understand that the staffing situation in St. Joseph's Hospital, Clonmel is being kept under review by the South-Eastern Health Board.
I might add that my Department have recently approved 40 permanent replacement posts for the South-Eastern Health Board. It is understood that the board intend that three of these will be permanent replacement nursing posts at St. Joseph's Hospital, Clonmel.
