260 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the number of bacon factories in the country which received grant-aid and which process only imported pigmeat.

261 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the number of pig processing plants in the country which received grant-aid and which process only Irish pigmeat.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 260 and 261 together.

There are no grant-aided bacon factories which process only imported pigmeat. A total of 15 plants currently processing pigmeat were awarded grant-aid. Two of these plants process only Irish pigmeat but the bulk of pigmeat processed at the rest of the plants is Irish.
