326 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Social Welfare the estimated cost to the Exchequer of reducing the employees rate of PRSI from 5.5 per cent to 3 per cent.

327 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Social Welfare the estimated extra revenue which would be gained by the Exchequer if the PRSI ceiling was abolished for, (a) employees and (b) employers.

It is proposed to take Questions Nos. 326 and 327 together.

The estimated cost to the Exchequer of reducing the employees rate of PRSI from 5.5 per cent to 3 per cent is £192 million.

The estimated extra revenue which would be gained by the Exchequer if the PRSI ceilings were abolished would be:
