Vol. 417 No. 5

Written Answers. - Dingle (Kerry) Teacher Appointment.

Michael Moynihan

Ceist:

181 Mr. Moynihan asked the Minister for Education if he will investigate the possibility of having a resource teacher appointed in Dingle, County Kerry, to cater for the needs of those children from all primary schools in the area who would benefit from the appointment of such a teacher.

Under the Programme for Economic and Social Progress seven resource teacher posts were recently allocated to cater for handicapped children attending ordinary national schools.

These appointments were made following the collection of data and information from schools by the Department's primary inspectorate. The posts were then allocated on the basis of priority of need, as indicated by the information collected.

I will be keeping the appointment of further resource teachers under review and the needs of the area mentioned by the Deputy will be considered in this context.
