Vol. 417 No. 5

Written Answers. - Tourism Promotion Funding.

Donal Carey

Ceist:

223 Mr. Carey asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if she will review the grant aid available to SFADCo for the promotion of tourism in the mid-west area because the 1992 reduction will have severe effects on festivals in County Clare; and if she will allocate additional funds.

A grant-in-aid of £1.775 million has been allocated to SFADCo for administration and general expenses associated with tourism promotion and traffic development in 1992. This level of grant-in-aid was set in the context of a very difficult budgetary situation and I cannot offer any hope of an increased allocation. I would point out that the grant represents a 1 per cent reduction on the allocation of £1.8 million set for 1991 and less than 5 per cent on the actual 1991 outturn.

Expenditure by SFADCo on promotional activities such as festivals in County Clare is a matter for the company.
