Ceist:

247 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for Health the number of posts applied for by the Western Health Board to his Department; if he will give a breakdown of the different positions sought for approval, and when a decision will be made on this application.

As the Deputy is aware all health agencies are required to submit a prioritised list of proposed permanent posts, both new and replacement, on a monthly basis for consideration by my Department. The Western Health Board applied for approval to fill 92 permanent posts in their most recent submission, details of which are set out in the following tabular statement:

Management/Administrative	12
Medical/Dental	6
Nursing	38
Paramedical	8
Support Services	26
Maintenance/Technical	2
Total	92

My Department have considered this application having regard to service, personnel and financial criteria and to the priority afforded to each post by the Western Health Board. I am pleased to inform the Deputy that approval has been granted to the filling of 61 of these posts.
