Vol. 417 No. 5

Written Answers. - Health Board Allocation.

Michael Finucane

Ceist:

251 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Health if he will outline, (1) the capital allocation for 1991 to the Mid-Western Health Board and (2) the capital allocation for 1992.

Capital payments to the Mid-Western Health Board in 1991, consisting of disbursements from the capital subheads and grants of a capital nature funded from the national lottery, amounted to £1.6 million.

Capital funding will be made available to the board in 1992 for items such as the planning of a major development at Limerick Regional Hospital and for a ward refurbishment programme at Limerick Regional Hospital and St. Nessan's Hospital, Croom, essential fire prevention and maintenance works in the board's institutions and residual contractual commitments in relation to the completion of construction of the new health centres at Shannon and Moyross.

I hope to be in a position later in the year to provide some capital funds also for the replacement of hospital equipment and a contribution will be made to the cost of developing the board's community care infrastructure to the extent that resources permit.

The total capital resources which will be made available to the board in 1992 will depend on several factors which cannot be quantified accurately in advance and it is not possible at this stage to give a precise figure for the year.
