271 Mr. Taylor asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received representations from the Irish Taxi Drivers' Federation regarding alleged abuses of SI No. 273 of 1983 by private hire drivers in taxi-meter areas as alleged in a letter (details supplied), and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware of the views of the Irish Taxi Drivers Federation regarding the provision in question. As regards the question of alleged abuses, I should point out that enforcement of the Road Traffic (Public Service Vehicles) Regulations is a matter for the Garda Síochána.
