Vol. 417 No. 5

Written Answers. - Smokeless Fuel Grants.

Austin Currie

Ceist:

283 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for the Environment whether he will extend the smokeless fuel grants currently available in the Ballyfermot area to the Balgaddy, Clondalkin, Dublin 22 area in view of the fact that the two areas have similar problems; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Environment Action Programme provided that in view of the ban being introduced on the marketing, sale and distribution of bituminous coal in Dublin, no further special control area orders, such as operated in Ballyfermot, would be confirmed. Grant commitments under the scheme for special control areas have now been discharged and the schemes have been terminated.

Assistance in relation to the costs of using smokeless fuels now takes the form of a special fuel allowance for low income householders in the Dublin restricted area.
