315 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food his views on whether the compensation to farmers for animals with bovine tuberculosis is inadequate; if he is prepared to provide income support to a person (details supplied) in County Tipperary who is experiencing extreme hardship; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
I have been informed by the Director of ERAD that the reactor grant system operated by ERAD is, in general, designed to bridge the difference between the slaughter price and the cost of an equivalent replacement animal. Grant levels are reviewed on a regular basis in order to reflect changing market situations. The reactor grants and income supplement due to the person named will be paid within the next few weeks.
