Ceist:

39 Mr. Belton asked the Minister for the Environment if he has reviewed the system of compiling the voting register in the light of the availability of modern technology; and if he has any proposals to bring this area of local authority responsibility up to date which would particularly allow for postal votes.

All but three registration authorities use a computer-based system in the production of the register of electors. The system is under review by the Local Government Computer Services Board.
