Vol. 417 No. 9

Written Answers. - County Sligo River Fisheries.

Edward Nealon

Ceist:

125 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Finance if, in connection with the arterial drainage of the Bonet river in County Sligo, the Office of Public Works has established whether there are any individuals or syndicates with fishing rights along the lower Bonet river.

There are a number of individuals and at least one syndicate of which the Commissioners of Public Works are aware, with claims to fishing rights on the River Bonet.

Edward Nealon

Ceist:

126 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Finance if he will give details of the exact section of the lower Bonet river for which a claim for compensation because of damage to fisheries was made by a fishing syndicate (details supplied).

Edward Nealon

Ceist:

127 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Finance if a fishing syndicate (details supplied) received compensation from the Office of Public Works under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945 because of damage done to the fisheries by the drainage of the Bonet catchment area in County Sligo; if he will give details of the number of members of the syndicate which were involved; and if the money has been paid out.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 125, 126 and 127 together.

The Commissioners of Public Works have received a claim for compensation from the owners of a fishery which is situated downstream of Dromahair, County Leitrim, and which extends for about one mile along the Lower Bonet River. This claim is being dealt with under the relevant provisions of the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945. The claim has been referred to arbitration and is awaiting a hearing. No money has been paid to the syndicate in respect of this claim. I am not in a position to disclose specific details in relation to the syndicate.
