Vol. 420 No. 3

Written Answers. - Racial Discrimination Convention.

Michael P. Kitt

Ceist:

146 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the number of meetings held by the interdepartmental committee examining measures required to ratify the UN Convention on Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Interdepartmental Committee established to examine measures to allow ratification of the UN Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Racial Discrimination meets as required. It is chaired by the Office of the Attorney General.

I do not consider that it would be appropriate to give details of the number of meetings held. However, I can say that it is the intention of the Government to take all necessary steps to proceed to ratification of the Convention once the examination by the Interdepartmental Committee has been completed.
