Vol. 421 No. 2
21 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Justice if he will outline the statistics relating to drug seizures and drug offences in Cork from 1986 to 1991.
70 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Justice if he will outline the way in which Cork compares with the rest of the country in relation to drug use, seizures and offences.
I propose to take Questions Nos. 21 and 70 together.
I am informed by the Garda authorities that the information available relates to the number of persons charged with offences under the Misuse of Drugs Acts, 1977-1984 and the number of seizures in the Cork East and Cork West Garda Divisions and the country as a whole in each of the years 1986 to 1990. This information is set out in a tabular statement which I propose to circulate in the Official Report. As can be seen from these figures drug charges and seizures in the Cork East and West Divisions for 1990 represent approximately 18 per cent of the total corresponding figures for the whole country.
Figures for 1991 are not yet available.
