Vol. 421 No. 2

Written Answers. - Garda Statistics.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

61 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice the number of gardaí available for duty in (a) Dublin city and county and (b) the neighbouring counties such as Wicklow, Kildare and Meath; whether these resources are sufficient; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I would refer the Deputy to my replies to his Questions No. 57 on 7 May 1992 and No. 82 on 19 May 1992 in which I outlined the particulars sought in so far as counties Kildare, Meath and Wicklow are concerned. The information sought concerning the Dublin Metropolitan Area was outlined in my reply to Question No. 60 on 28 May 1992.

The Garda authorities inform me that they are satisfied that the Garda Strength in the areas in question is adequate to deal with the policing needs of these areas, but they continuously monitor manpower levels and other policing arrangements to ensure that the maximum utilisation of available resources is achieved.
