Vol. 423 No. 1
190 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Education if he will give details of all primary schools which received an allocation of a remedial teacher in 1992/1993, giving the location and pupil numbers of each school.
The creation of additional remedial teacher posts in national schools in a particular year depends upon the resources which can be made available in that year. There are almost 1,000 approved posts of remedial teacher currently in primary schools.
Three hundred teaching posts were provided this year under the Programme for Economic and Social Progress. By agreement with concerned interests, all of these posts were used to reduce class sizes and, accordingly, it was not possible to increase the number of remedial teachers.
191 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Education if he will give details of all second level schools which received an allocation of a remedial teacher in 1992/93, giving the location and pupil numbers of each school.
It is not normal practice for my Department to give details of staffing arrangements in individual schools.
The approved teacher allocations to post-primary schools for 1992/93 school year include a total of 252 remedial posts on an ex-quota basis in the three sectors as follows:
