Bernard Allen
Ceist:133 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he will simplify the system of legal requirements for foreign doctors, especially in view of the recent statements made by the Irish Medical Organisation.
Vol. 423 No. 8
133 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he will simplify the system of legal requirements for foreign doctors, especially in view of the recent statements made by the Irish Medical Organisation.
I presume the Deputy is referring to the claim made by the Irish Medical Organisation in the Irish Medical News of 28 September 1992 that foreign doctors are working illegally in Ireland.
I understand that delays are being experienced in the issuing of work permits and visas. My Department has no function in these areas. I am not aware, however, of any particular problems at present with temporary registration of foreign doctors which is governed by the Medical Council.
If the Deputy knows of any particular case, I will be glad to take the matter up with the Council.
