Vol. 423 No. 8

Written Answers. - FÁS Trainee Placements.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

227 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Labour the number of FÁS placements in 1991 from training centres on completion of training, the percentage successfully placed in employment and the percentage at work one year later; the number of placements through the Employment Incentive Scheme and other subsidy schemes in 1991 year and the percentage of those who were long term unemployed; and the number of placements through the FÁS Employment Service in 1991.

Statistics are not available to answer all the elements of the Deputy's question.

With regard to FÁS main line training courses, 14,534 persons completed these courses in 1991 of whom approximately 70 per cent were placed in employment. Information is not available on the numbers at work one year later. With regard to courses for young people and disadvantaged persons, other performance measures are used including progression to a mainline course or return to education.

With regard to the Employment Incentive Scheme, which is targeted at the long term unemployed, early school leavers and other disadvantaged persons, 2,289 persons were placed in employment through the scheme in 1991 of whom about 70 per cent were long term unemployed. The Employment Subsidy Scheme did not commence until March, 1992.

In responce to the notification of vacancies from employers FÁS placed about 18,000 in employment in 1991.
