Vol. 423 No. 8

Written Answers. - Recreational and Amenity Grants.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

75 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment the total amount of funding available to his Department for disbursement of voluntary groups for the provision of recreational amenities in the year ending 31 December 1992; the number of groups who have received awards under the scheme or will so do before the end of 1992; the amounts, if any, to be carried forward into 1993; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

197 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment when he expects to provide further funding from the proceeds of the national lottery by way of recreational and amenity grants; if he expects to carry forward any sums from current or previous years for allocation in 1993; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 75 and 197 together.

The Environment Vote for 1992 includes a provision of £4 million to meet commitments expected to arise from allocations made under the Amenities/ Recreational Facilities Grants Scheme in previous years. There is no provision in the Vote for new allocations in 1992. Whether funds will be provided for a new scheme next year is a matter for the Government to decide in the context of the estimates.

A total of 671 projects have received or claimed payment to date this year. It is expected that the provision of £4 million will be fully expended by 31 December 1992.
