Written Answers. - Dublin Port Support.

Ceist:

93 Mr. Barrett asked the Minister for the Marine the level of support or assistance given to Dublin Port by successive Governments since 1980; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Government support and assistance as follows has been given to Dublin Port and Docks Board since 1980: (a) Borrowings of up to £7 million by Dublin Port and Docks Board were guaranteed by the State from December, 1985 to December, 1988. The State guarantee was extended to end June, 1989 in respect of borrowings of up to £5 million; (b) Local Loans Fund, i.e. State, borrowings of £5.5 million were drawn down by the board in 1985-86; (c) Payments totalling £9 million was paid to Dublin Port and Docks Board during the years 1985, 1986 and 1987 as compensation for the transfer of 27 acres of land from the port board to the Custom House Docks Development Authority.

With the support of the Government, Dublin Port and Docks Board have been successful in securing EC grant aid totalling £5.89 million between 1989 and 1992 for capital development works in the port.

In addition, two private companies received EC grant aid totalling £0.377 million in 1992 for capital works at Dublin Port.
