Vol. 426 No. 1

Written Answers. - Special Education Needs.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

197 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has to provide a special second level school in South County Dublin, along the lines of Benincasa special primary school in Blackrock, County Dublin to cater for the needs of pupils leaving Benin Casa and for other pupils who have difficulty coping in the mainstream second level system.

I am currently reviewing the present level of educational provision referred to by the Deputy with a view to determining what action might be necessary to better meet the needs of the children in question.

The Deputy will be aware that the educational arrangements and support services for students with special needs at post-primary level generally are among the matters being considered at present by the Special Education Review Committee. I will be considering the measures necessary in the light of the committee's recommendations.
